McLaren’s Oscar Piastri felt they didn’t have enough laps to capitalize on their tire wear advantage at the Canadian GP in Montreal, with the team struggling for performance compared to their usual standard. Despite a strong qualifying showing, Piastri couldn’t make up positions in the race due to tire management issues. The McLaren driver mentioned that the car came alive later in the stints but the race length wasn’t sufficient to fully exploit this. Team boss Andrea Stella pointed out that the nature of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve didn’t suit McLaren’s strengths, lacking mid-corner speed where the MCL39 excels. Stella praised the team’s efforts in improving the car’s setup but acknowledged the challenges posed by the circuit’s characteristics.
